December 2008 – Present
Creative Advertising Limited

Creative Artworker/Designer/Website Designer.

I am responsible for all aspects of the design and artwork plus overseeing the studio. As an experienced Artworker and a creative Designer I have excellent technical and typography skills along with an excellent understanding of the print process. I design marketing and promotional material, brochures, posters and other corporate literature, plus web banners and websites.

October 2005 – December 2008 -
Cavendish Media

Creative Artworker/Designer.

Cavendish Media is a well established recruitment advertising agency and as the Creative Artworker/Designer I was also responsible for all aspects of the design and artwork plus overseeing the small studio we had there. As an experienced Artworker and a creative Designer I have excellent technical and typography skills along with an excellent understanding of the print process. I created recruitment adverts for our clients which best suited their needs and budget; I also designed marketing and promotional material, brochures, posters and other corporate literature.

May 2004 – October 2005
Property Mart

Mac Operator/Artworker/Designer.

At Property Mart we produced 4 property magazines a month, which covered the East London & Essex areas. There were four of us working in the studio and together we processed incoming emails, scanned and corrected images, formatted the body copy and designed the front covers. We also created flyers and classified adverts. It was a very busy production environment in which speed and accuracy were of the utmost importance.

January 2002 - May 2004
Sumfield and Day
Mac Operator/Artworker/Designer.

Sumfield and Day was both Mac and PC based. I was one of a team of four responsible for all the design and typesetting. Together we prepared spot and four colour work for output to film; we also corrected or recreated work from other studios which had been created in various applications before running them to film. The work included letterheads, logos, business cards, flyers, posters, brochures and monthly magazines etc. I also gained valuable experience planning and plate making and liaising with the printers downstairs regarding any problems with design and printing issues.

January 1999 - January 2002
Beckett Newspapers

Mac Operator/Artworker.

I worked in the pre-press department designing small ads, double page spreads and monthly specials (news paper inserts) in mono and colour as quickly and as accurately as possible. Becketts was a team-orientated environment but on occasion we were required to take on projects on our own, which was a real bonus. I was made redundant due to the company relocating the pre-press department to another location.

January 1996 - January 1999
Convalescing after a Spinal Fusion.

During my period of convalescence I retrained myself and learned how to use the PC. I studied all the Industry standard Print Graphics applications. I felt the need to do this because I thought that plumbing and carpentry would no longer be a viable career.

Previous employment
(prior to my Spinal Fusion).

I worked at an engineering company called APV Howard Pumps Ltd in Eastbourne for 8 and a half years before my spinal fusion, as a Stores/Despatch Supervisor. I was unable to continue after my operation due to the nature of the job, heavy lifting etc. Before this I worked as a Works Manager at a window manufacturing company in Eastbourne where I was responsible for the day to day running of the factory.

Cavendish Media:
Simon joined this company in October 2005 and has been a key member of our creative studio team up until the present time. He has managed this area and made a significant contribution to the workings of the business particularly in the area of creative development and his work for us has been of a high standard.

Simon has organised the studio well and made it easy for other designers to access client work files through the setting up of a comprehensive filing system. He also displays an impressive aptitude for teaching others. He is well organised, proactive and is always willing to take on complex projects and use his initiative to solve problems without sacrificing good design sense and creativity. Simon is very adept at multi-tasking in a fast moving environment and shows good attention to detail.

I would not hesitate to recommend him and his abilities to any potential employer.

J. J. Humphrey. Managing Director.

Simon joined this company as an Apple Macintosh operator/designer working on our day shift. This involved setting a wide range of newspaper advertisements in mono and colour, with an emphasis on high volume turnaround and accuracy.

Simon has proved to be a highly efficient operator with an intensive knowledge of graphics applications used within our pre-press department/studio. He is keen to learn and has shown an eagerness to take on responsibility. His timekeeping has been good, and he has fitted into the team as an amiable and popular colleague.
